Matt on the News

Fox Morning News Cool School of the Week featured Matt's school this week. Matt was one of the students who got to go to school bright and early to be on the program. I made sure he wore a red shirt so I could pick him out of the crowd, but it ended up being quite easy to see him! I had trouble embedding the video into my blog, but if you want to see the clip of the segment he was in, you can click on this link: http://www.fox13now.com/videobeta/watch/?watch=4eab555e-b43c-43cf-af68-a3c8e5be026b&src=front

I Miss My Mom!

The fruit of my laborI was on my own this year and it took me a full day and a half to put up this apple sauce. Don't get me wrong -we'll enjoy it. With all the moving last year I didn't do any canning and we've been resorting to -gasp!- store bought applesauce lately, but I have to wonder if 45 quarts of applesauce and a sticky kitchen is really worth spending that much time on. I don't know, maybe it was, if only for the connection I somehow feel to my mom and grandma and ancestors on down the line when I do it. If only it didn't take so long and make such a mess! Do you think they complained as much as me?

Say Cheese!

As long as you have to turn 40, you might as well get a really cool present! Thanks John!
Now I just have to learn how to use it.

Kevin's Game

Finally, I got some pictures of one of Kevin's games, and on the most beautiful day of the year, too! 70 degrees, not a cloud in the October blue sky, and trees (and bushes) in brilliant colors all around town and covering the foothills. I think my kids are tired of me exclaiming about the beauty. Scott says that the colors of the fall leaves just means they're dying, and it's true, but I still think they're a gift.

We have been really proud of Kevin this year. His old team disbanded at the end of last year, so he's on a new team formed from parts of other teams. He has a new coach and he started the year as a benchwarmer, playing very little. He has kept a good attitude, though, and has kept working hard, and he's worked his way up to being a starter. It's been fun to watch him gain confidence and become more and more aggressive on the field.

Matthew's Turn

Amid all the excitement that is the older kids's soccer, sometimes Matthew's games don't get as much attention, but they are actually lots of fun. Matt loves to go to his practices and games each week. He's becoming much more aggressive at going after the ball, and he has scored quite a few times this season.

Conference Weekend at the Cabin

Even though Grandma and Grandpa are gone, we decided to spend a couple of days at the cabin this weekend. It's one of our favorite places to go, but the best part about it is Grandma and Grandpa, so it wasn't quite the same. But we valiantly tried to have fun anyway. We played games, rode 4-wheelers, listened to conference, and stayed warm by the fire. It was chilly, but nice weather until Sunday, when it rained and hailed on us.

Is My Cooking That Bad?

The other night Matthew had an interesting dream just in time for Halloween. In his dream he asked me what was for dinner and I replied, "the cat." Apparently I was going to "file off his hair and cook him on the pancake cooker." The boy has a lot of faith in me, doesn't he!

Granted, the cat does drive me slightly batty when he hops up in front of me almost everytime I sit at the computer and tries to play with my hands on the mouse or keyboard, but I don't think I'll resort to cooking him for dinner. Yet.

Happy Birthday, John!

Happy Birthday, John! Wednesday was John's 44th birthday. Of course, we had a soccer game, so we all (minus Camille, who had soccer practice) went down to Bountiful to watch Scott play. After we were all good and frozen - it feels like winter has suddenly arrived and skipped right over fall- we went to Sizzler where John's parents and Camille met us. It was good to have a chance to visit with Mommer and Grandpa for a while. Then we went back home to Ogden for cake and ice cream.
My first attempt at a fondant-covered cake. Not too bad as long as you don't look too close.

The gang.

I think it's missing a few candles.
