Is There a Problem, Officer?

I have to tell the story of our brush with the law the other morning. It was early in the morning and I was lying on the couch in the family room because I was having trouble sleeping. That wasn't working much better because our hyper cat kept jumping on me. Just as I was drifting off to sleep at about 5:00 am I heard someone banging on our front door. I couldn't imagine who it was -all our kids were home when we went to bed, and Spunky was snoring in his kennel. I had heard about burglers who knock first to see if you are home, then break in if you don't answer, so I thought I'd better see who it was. As I looked out the glass by the door the men outside said "Police" and flashed a badge in front of their flashlight. Now I was really freaked out. I mean, I trust my kids, but all kinds of scenarios went through my mind. I opened the door and they said that they had recieved a 911 call from our home. Well, that was weird, because our phone line had been dead all day since our neighbor's landscapers had damaged it. When I told them this, they didn't even seem surprised, so I guess it has happened before. How a dead phone line calls 911, I don't understand, but they didn't seem to have a problem with it, they just apologized and said good bye. I didn't realize how fast my heart was beating and how much I was shaking until I closed the door. That was it for sleep for me!

Cub Scouts

Matthew is soooo excited about Cub Scouts. Camille took him to his first pack meeting this week and he got his Bobcat badge. I was sorry to miss it, but you know those nights when you're supposed to be in four places at the same time? It was one of those. He wouldn't rest until I sewed (well, stuck) it on his uniform. (I love Badge Magic!) He's counting the days until his next den meeting.

First Day of School

Summer is officially over! The kids headed back to school today, a little sad that their freedom is gone, but looking forward to a new year. Scott and Kevin were both excited about going to new schools -High School and Jr. High- and Matthew gets to go to a brand new shiny elementary school.
Camille is starting her senior year at Ogden High -it seems like yesterday that I was curling her hair for her first day of kindergarten!

Do you think they'll look this happy before school in a week or two?

I have always been excited about the first day of school. New clothes, sharpened pencils, empty notebooks. Anything and everything is possible! For me, even more than New Years, it is a time of goal setting and planning. And of course, it is the beginning of my favorite time of year -all the "...ber" months!

Happy Birthday, Matt!

I can't believe Matthew is 8! I no longer have a little boy! He is excited about getting baptized and joining cub scouts. His scout leader delivered his manual last Sunday and he is ready to get his Bobcat badge already! I wish I could bottle some of his enthusiasm and give it to one of his older brothers who will remain nameless! ;)Matthew was excited about his bubble gum machine cake!

We went to Classic Waterslides for his friend party.

Trying out his new BIG bike!

Matthew is a joy in our family. He is excited to start 2nd grade and to have discovered a new loose tooth on his birthday! He loves board games, our kitty, playing with friends, playing soccer, and bugging his brothers.

It Starts!

Well, the fall soccer season is officially underway! The boys are still just practicing and playing in tournaments, but Camille's team had their first preseason game yesterday against their old rivals, Ben Lomond. They won't get to play them during the regular season because Ogden has moved up to 4A this year, so that's sad. Anyway, they won 4-1! It was a great game. Camille is a captain this year and has really taken on a leadership role. Her position is last man, so she is in charge of directing the defense. The only goal scored against them was a penalty kick, so the defense did a great job. (Even though the penalty was against Camille!)
Camille has a few more bruises to add to her collection.
