We had the little guys buzzing around our deck like they were expecting something, so we hung up a feeder, and, yep, that was it. There's a steady stream of them coming and going now.

Guess what we did last weekend?
We spent the Memorial Day weekend covering up our lovely dirt with sod. I don't know what I'm going to do without muddy pawprints and footprints throughout the house! Now we just need trees, shrubs, flowers, a walkway, and a fence!

She did it again!
Last Saturday Camille ran the Ogden Half Marathon again. She did great -a couple of minutes slower than last year, but she said it was much more enjoyable. All her training paid off. She even felt fine for the last 3 miles that nearly killed her last year! The only negative -her slacker friend Tyson, who barely trained at all, beat her! But he could barely walk the next day, and Camille was fine, so at least she got to hold that over him.
I ran in the Marathon Relay again. It's a ton of fun. I ran a 5 mile leg this time, except that they lied to us when they told us it was 5 miles! It was really 5.4 miles, which would have been nice to know when I started sprinting (well, running as fast as I could at that point -I don't know if I've ever really sprinted in my life) to the finish at 4.5 miles! Maybe .4 miles isn't a lot to some people, but it is to me!

Spring Soccer
Just as the weather is warming up, another soccer season is winding to a close. It's been a cold, but good one. Spring is the off season for the high school girls' team, so Camille's team played in a district league just for practice. There wasn't a whole lot of competition, but they got some good games in. In June they'll start conditioning for the fall season. Camille's excited for her senior year, but sad that it will be her last, and nervous because OHS is moving up to 4A.
Scott was thrilled to make the high school team this year as a freshman. He thought it was cool to hang out with the high school kids. They had a great year, losing a heart-breaker 0-1 to Park City in the State 3A semi-finals. Scott played on the JV team. He really improved over the year, earning a starting position by the end of the season. He's sad the season's over, but I'm glad to see him a little more often.

Kevin's team was undefeated this year! It's a fun team for him because several of his teammates are also his friends from school. Kevin also refereed a bunch of AYSO (rec) games on Saturdays. Kind of boring- but he didn't complain much, and he's getting pretty good at it. It's not a bad way for a 12-year-old to earn a few bucks.

Matt gets the award for most improved player. In the beginning he hardly touched the ball, but now he really goes after it, and he even scored a couple of times. He kicks the ball all over the house. (I wonder where he learned that, Scott?) We really need a lawn!

Beus Pond
Do you have a favorite place? One of mine is a little spot called Beus Pond not far from our house. It has a large grass field and a playground, but my favorite part is the pond circled by a walking path and surrounded by trees. It's a very restful place, but not a very quiet place because of all the ducks and geese honking and quacking. Matthew and I like to go there on summer evenings. He takes his bike (he learned to ride without training wheels there a couple of years ago) and we just go round and round. I'll be sad when he gets too big to want to go with me anymore. Spring is a fun time to go to Beus Pond because of the baby ducks and geese, but I think fall is my favorite. It's my kids' least favorite, because that's when I drag them all there to take millions of pictures. (The family picture at the top of our blog was taken there last October.) The colors are so beautiful, I tell them it would be irresponsible of us not to!
A couple of nights ago John, Matt, and I found ourselves alone for the evening while the older kids were off busy with other things. We decided to take a little picnic to Beus Pond together. Matt and John got in a little soccer practice, and we made sure the ducks and geese weren't starving.

This goose was a little too friendly!

Running in the Rain
On Saturday, Kevin, his friend, Trevor, and I ran in the Shadow Valley Elementary 5K, and Matt ran in the 1 mile kids run to raise money for supplies for our brand new school. It's a gorgeous school and Kevin and Trevor are a little jealous that they won't get a chance to go there. Ogden has a lot of runners, so there was a great turnout, even though it was raining cats and dogs. Kevin and Trevor left me in their dust (well, mud) and, in their eyes, the rain only added to the fun. Matt ran/walked the 1 miler with a friend and afterwards he told me, "That was so freakin' fun!" He especially liked the Creamies and bananas at the finish line! I just wanted a hot shower!
While everyone else was huddled under shelters waiting for the race to start, Kevin and Trevor hung out in the rain. They were soaked before the race started.

Wicked!
Camille and I had a Wicked night out the other night. We were in New York with tickets in hand to another Broadway show (Phantom) a year and a half ago when the stagehands strike cancelled the performance. We decided to use the money to see Wicked when it came to Salt Lake and the day finally came! It took standing in line for hours early in the morning last December to get the tickets, but it was worth it. We're still singing the songs!
Just for fun, here are some old pictures of Camille as a wicked witch and Dorothy on Halloweens past.
